Wrongful Conviction: The New York Experience

Abstract:

The Innocence Project shows DNA evidence has exonerated 18 wrongfully convicted people in New York since 2000. Using the National Registry of Exonerations, this research looks at wrongful convictions in New York State. This study discusses five factors contributing to wrongful convictions: eyewitness misidentification, false confessions, misapplication of forensic science, police and prosecutorial misconduct, and racial biases.
