Whitewashing History: The Romanticization of Colonialism and Violence Against Indigenous Populations
Abstract:
For hundreds of years, the United States government has subjected its Indigenous population to violence and oppression. The reality of this systemic abuse was disregarded by our nation’s schools and replaced by a romanticized, whitewashed version of the country’s past. The incessant violence and subsequent erasure perpetuates stereotypes and misinformation that continue to harm what remains of Indigenous cultures residing in the United States.Title
