They’re Out for Our Autonomy: Anti-Abortion Legislation and the Sanctity of a Woman’s Life

Abstract:

Despite the argument that restricting reproductive rights protects the sanctity of life, proponents of anti-abortion legislation are committing a tragic injustice that threatens to destroy not only women’s bodily autonomy, but doctoral autonomy as well. These legislators repeatedly put women’s health at risk and open the door for historically minoritized groups to be attacked, which is why governmental authorities should not have jurisdiction over women’s reproductive rights. Women’s reproductive rights have been used as a political stepping stone for far too long, allowing the significance of this topic to be severely diminished. Without proper handling, America will regress into a period where women are not treated as valuable parts of society but as the property of men instead.
