Religion and Issue Attitudes

Abstract:

Political attitudes are an expression of favor and/or disfavor towards a particular object. these attitudes shape the ways people think about, feel towards and act upon a target, and are shaped by the beliefs and values one holds about the world around them. Religion is heavily embedded in American society, and therefore often, but not always, plays a role in the socialization and habituation processes of individuals throughout their lives. Religious beliefs and strong religious affiliation often affect an individual’s attitudes towards particular issues. In this paper, I explore why and how religion creates constraint among constituents.
