Poetry For Social Change: An Investigation into the Beat Poets
Abstract:
This presentation focuses on the anti-war and environmentalist movements of the 1950s-1970s that intersect in the work of Allen Ginsberg and Gregory Corso. After the dropping of the atomic bombs and the start of the Vietnam War, many Beat Poets chose to take a stand against these horrific acts by focusing on injustice in their work. By highlighting how this poetry was used to fight for social change in the time of the Beat Generation, it becomes glaringly relevant to modern day discussions of various issues concerning social justice.Title
