Negative Economic Perceptions & Voting in the 2022 Election
Abstract:
Citizens have valid reasons to vote for a particular candidate or party. One important issue that drives voters to the polls is concern about the economy. Individual voters can be influenced by their perceptions of current economic conditions. Using ANES data from the 2022 election, I intend to investigate whether negative economic evaluations led to people voting for Republican candidates, and whether there was any difference between Whites, Blacks, Asians, and Latinos. I expect to find some differences between groups (as to whether group members have negative perceptions of the economy), and whether or not they voted for Republican candidates.
