Abstract:

This oral presentation will seek to examine how the media’s purpose changes in order to accommodate the needs of the government and public throughout time. This will be evident through the use of literary and scholarly sources that cover the Colonial, Second World War, and modern time periods. It will be shown that we, as Americans, fluctuate the role of the media in order to accommodate, or rather compensate for, the advancement of other societal and technological factors, such as war or politics.
