Contact Sports and Classroom

Abstract:

Since the dawn of time, the purpose to combat has evolved and changed. It has ranged from the neanderthals, to gladiators, to the vikings, and lastly military personel. Combat used to be an act of either survival, violence, and entertainment. However as of today, combat may pave the way to academic success. Our most common and accepted forms of “combat” are contact sports such as football, rugby, ice hockey, and lacrosse. While these sports have their benefits for both the students and the audience they play for, there are many benefits and misconceptions to sports such as taekwondo, judo, and boxing. These sports offer spectacular benefits to a student such as emotional intelligence, self discipline, and the ability to handle aggression.
