Abstract:

My presentation explores the horrific reality of the forced labor of the Congolese people. Their sole purpose in life, deemed by their enslavers, is to mine cobalt so it can be sold to the companies such as Apple. These major tech corporations utilize cobalt in their lithium-ion batteries which power their products. This issue is significant to us because every one of our phones and electric cars has only been made possible because of the misfortune of the Congolese people.
