Factors affecting crime in Metropolitan Areas in the U.S.
Abstract:
One of the most persistent and difficult questions in criminology research is exploring the effect of demographic factors on the likelihood of crime. Data collection, comparison, and reliability are all common issues. To combat these traditional woes, we examine many potential factors and their implications using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2015-2019 American Community Survey., combined with the FBI Crime in the United States 2019 database for Metropolitan Statistical Areas. We analyzed the data using a Linear Multiple Regression model, attempting to reveal any significant relationship between crime rates and the multitude of characteristics surveyed. The model indicates that certain economic and employment characteristics have a statistically significant impact, both positive and negative, on the crime rate in Metropolitan areas in the US.Title
