The Power of JavaScript to Optimize Web Design Efficiency in Zybooks

Abstract:

The interactive learning platform, ZyBooks, is used in several classes in the Computer Science department, including Web Design. As an independent study under the supervision of Dr. Egan, I used JavaScript to rewrite some of the test cases in the platform that were either incorrect or insufficient. I also created new sections of the online book to automate the grading of labs and projects. This involved not only the understanding of the concepts covered in the lab, but thinking of incorrect code that students might submit. I used JavaScript to write comprehensive test cases and provide useful error messages to the student. As a result, they received immediate feedback and a more accurate assessment of their understanding and skills without having to wait until the instructor graded the labs or projects.
