The Formation and Evolution of International Social Innovation Projects

Abstract:

This work examines two questions. The innovation journey looks at three main processes: incubation, development, and either launch or termination; measured along 12 sub-components. We seek to examine (1) the likelihood of social innovation project selection and launch while extending (2) the model to international social innovations. To do this we use the qualitative comparative analysis approach to examine the formation and evolution of international social innovation projects, targeted to alleviate a wicked problem and promote sustainable, equitable employment. Very preliminary findings imply (1) a greater likelihood of shocks that reshape the project due to international differences, and (2) some components carry more weight than others in the likelihood of selection. Projects that were launched showed clear alignment of SDG 8.
