Medicinal Plant Walk

Abstract:

Plants have a lot of great purposes other than the aesthetic they bring to the world. They have a lot of beneficial uses to humans as well such as medicinal uses. We are proposing a medicinal plant walk around Siena College’s campus in efforts to bring reconciliation ecology to the college community. This will be achieved by having a path with checkpoints around campus with each checkpoint having a garden bed of plants that are used for medicinal purposes. There would be informational plaques with details about the specific species and a QR code for feedback and thoughts to engage the community with these species in their everyday lives, whether that be just on the walk to class. The project would be made possible by the contributions of the Environmental Club, Biology Club, Gardening Club and Habitat for Humanity, with the help of Siena College Facilities as well.
