The Disingenuous Voice: How Manipulation Strategies and Misinformation Deceive the American People

Abstract:

Free speech is a democratic right, yet the spread of misinformation and the selfish strategies of politicians and celebrities abusing their influence inhibits critical thinking among the American people. Politicians use communicative manipulation strategies, brainwashing their audiences into believing in movements promising comfort or validation. To understand the gravity of these strategies, we must acknowledge the psychological drivers behind the audience’s trust in this misinformation. When voiced by those in positions of influence and trust, words become tools to manipulate, distract from, and distort reality.
