Leave No Trace: New Legislation for Greener Live Music

Abstract:

The music industry, especially its touring sector, plays a noticeable role in polluting the planet. To change this, environmental sustainability measures should be carried out on a nation-wide scale, rather than by a few individual artists and nonprofit organizations. This needs to be done through environmental legislation that requires music venues to implement recycling and clean energy sources so that measurable results will be produced. These regulations must take priority over profit. For the sake of both current and future citizens, the American government must follow in the footsteps of other countries, such as the United Kingdom, in making positive change for the planet, beginning with enacting new environmental policy that regulates corporate aspects of the music industry.
