Abstract:

Discussion of what caused the approval and support for Native American Assimilation by the American Government and its people during the late 19th Century. My thesis was that Racism was not the main cause but rather a form of misplaced empathy and desire to help Native Americans Adapt to the new westernizing culture and the effects of Americanization.
