Shooting Blanks : An Investigation into Male Hormonal Birth Control

Abstract:

Hormonal birth control has been a staple of contraception for decades, but has only been available to female consumers. Why male hormonal birth control is not available to the public is not a question of science, male birth control pills with high effectiveness have been developed in clinical trials since the mid 1900’s. Neither is there a lack of demand, research has shown that the benefits of male birth control (Including reproductive autonomy and shouldering the burden of birth control from a female partner) lead to a workable market for male birth control. The reason these substances are not available is a complicated question involving negative side effects, perceived gender roles, and economic considerations, yet the benefits of hormonal male contraception outweigh these concerns.
