The Effect of Time Support and Peer Pressure on Physiological Arousal and Task Performance

Abstract:

This study investigated the effects of peer support and time pressure by measuring heart rate and performance on three cognitive tasks. In this 2×2 factorial design, there were 4 groups that participants were randomly assigned to. The first group had time pressure and no peer support, the second group had no time pressure and no peer support, the third group had time pressure and peer support and the fourth group had no time pressure and peer support. We hypothesized that the group with no time pressure and peer support would perform better on the cognitive task as well as have lower physiological arousal. We also hypothesized that the group with no peer support and time pressure would perform worse and have a higher physiological arousal.
